Tonight, I was looking through a 24 yr old telescope (mostly a conversation piece now). Last night, I tried to get a glimpse of Saturn.. no luck. After showing my wife a little bit about this telescope, we both started looking towards the brighest star in the sky. (we're in Northeast USA) Anyhow, there appeared to be a glare of sorts coming off an object in between us and the star-- almost the perfect glare that you would see from the reflection of a planet.
How likely is it that this actually WAS a planet? I'm very skeptical, but yet hopeful. Can anyone direct me to a website that might help me answer this question and others like it? This telescope was probably a lot of money 20-some years ago, but it's old, and some of the lenses are dirty... but would it have the ability to see planets like that?
Thx
