(a)i ran int[x/(4-x^2)^2]dx from
x=0 to x=3 through a computer
and it came up with infinity-

however, i did a bit of juggling
and by putting u=4-x^2 i came
up with -9/40 for x between 0
and 3-

which version(if either) do you
believe to be correct and why?

(b)what is a singularity in
mathematics?
does it exist?

Find the equation of the circle tangent to the x-axis with center (8, -3)

I'm really confused on how I get the radius to use in the following step

(x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 = r^2

From my knowledge so far, I can make it look like this, but no farther

(x-8)^2 + (y+3)^2 = R^2

Which number does this represent in the base 10 system? 4) Outline a series of three distinct activities to help a child realise that the quality in a fraction is dependent on what the whole is. Are these activities at different levels of difficulty? Give reasons for your answer. 5) The following statements are often made about mathematics. since there is an infinite amount of numbers in the interval between 0 and 1 and there is also an infinite amount of numbers in the interval between 0 and 10, the two intervals have the same number of numbers. so why is 10 bigger than 1?

here is the definition of congruent triangle in my book

http://img262.imageshack.us/my.php?image=congruent3qm.jpg

i have a question on it.

there are 6 statements , for example a,b,c,d,e,f .

Q1; my question is , if at least one of them is satisfied , then can we call 2 triangles are congruent ? or the 2 triangles must have to satisfy ALL the above conditions ? which is correct ?

Q2; please look at condition (d)...

it says
but if i change this to ,
please note ,i have just changed the ordering of side in the above .....I am not sure whether i still would be able to call these triangles as congruent ....does the change of ordering like above affect at all ?.......please clarify this doubt.

I'm thinking of conducting some research into CT urology (kidneys, ureter and bladder) and patient positioning for identifying the position of renal calculi. Doctors I have worked within placement in hospitals around Wales either position their patients supine (on their back) or prone (on there front) and I'm wondering if there are reasons behind their technique?? Also, is the patients position written in protocols or is it purely doctors preference?? Any help with answering my questions would be gratefully recieved, thanks!!

A prime number test?

Given an integer n >= 2. Then: (a) If n is a factor of 2^n - 2, then n is prime, and (b) If n is not a factor of 2^n - 2, then n is not prime.

Are statements a and b both true? I test all the numbers up to 30, and it worked every time:

If n = 2, 2^2 - 2 = 2. 2 is a factor of 2, so 2 is prime.

If n = 3, 2^3 - 2 = 6. 3 is a factor of 6, so 3 is prime.

If n = 4, 2^4 - 2 = 14. 4 is not a factor of 14, so 4 is composite.

If n = 5, 2^5 - 2 = 30. 5 is a factor of 30, so 5 is prime.

If n = 6, 2^6 - 2 = 62. 6 is not a factor of 2, so 6 is composite.

If n = 7, 2^7 - 2 = 126. 7 is a factor of 126, so 7 is prime.

If n = 8, 2^8 - 2 = 254. 8 is not a factor of 254, so 8 is composite.

If n = 9, 2^9 - 2 = 510. 9 is not a factor of 510, so 9 is composite.

If n = 10, 2^10 - 2 = 1022. 10 is not a factor of 1022, so 10 is composite.

If n = 11, 2^11 - 2 = 2046. 11 is a factor of 2046, so 11 is prime.

If n = 12, 2^12 - 2 = 4094. 12 is not a factor of 4094, so 12 is composite.

If n = 13, 2^13 - 2 = 8190. 13 is a factor of 8190, so 13 is prime.

If n = 14, 2^14 - 2 = 16382. 14 is not a factor of 16382, so 14 is composite.

If n = 15, 2^15 - 2 = 32766. 15 is not a factor of 32766, so 15 is composite.

...and so on. If both statements are not true, where is the first counter-example??
