The premise of "reporting the news" is supposed to be that people want, to steal a line from an old television show, "just the facts". However, it is often difficult to determine the difference between "facts" and "opinions", especially since reporters, either network or print, may be held to certain standards based upon where they are choosing to report, and based upon what they choose to omit from their stories which, in many cases, is more important than what they choose to include in their stories.

So clearly, there is media bias. My question is not, "Does it exist?" My question is "Why does it exist?" What purpose is served by their being media bias?

Serious answers only, please.

Could Michael Devlin have met both of these kids online and decided to kidnap them? Shawn seemed to have a lot of contact with the online community while he was living with Devlin... I wonder if he was watching Ben Ownby for some time.

Many of the posts regarding the nightmare of Shawn are repugnant at best. He has lived through years of fear and separation from his family at such a young age - and survived. He is extraordinary.

I wonder how many people posting here have lived through a single minute of the terror he felt for the past 4+ years. And yet thoughtless anonymous opinions are spat about and blind points of view are on display for the world to read.
Yahoo states (http://docs.yahoo.com/info/values/) "We share an infectious sense of mission to make an impact on society".
"Yahoo is also committed to...inspire people to make a positive impact on their communities" (http://yhoo.client.shareholder.com/press/overview.cfm). Listed are affiliations with NPO's such as BBBS and Missing Children Alerts.

I can't help but wonder...if Yahoo TRULY cares about children...why is it hosting material that hurts them?
Shawn and other abused children most likely have access to the internet. Heaven forbid they find this.

to being PC? In fact, INVITES those to appear on the show who convieniently decline to participate in tackling the issue at hand. Yes , hes loud and opinionated, but does post his own Criticism by viewers. Most liberal news shows get cancelled and low ratings. It is not the weather report it IS his show, and he can agree or disagree . It wouldn't still be on if it wasn't so popular internationally. Yes, he gets facts wrong, then posts/takes responsibility for it. What's the problem??

"I live 5 miles from where the accident happened, and when I looked out of my kitchen window to the south I thought I was looking at snow,and/or rain clouds when I first saw the smoke"!:( The accident sure has messed up traffic flow around the Louisville, Kentucky area, but at least there were very few hurt, and so far no casualties! Just wondered if any of you had heard about the news. They had everyone in Bullitt County which is where I live, and where the accident happened to keep our doors, and windows shut, turn off our furnaces, and bring all pets inside. They evacuated a few homes in the area, but our housing addition was not one of them!:)

No more discussion groups, opinions, just read their story and believe it. I think this is media control. What do you think?

They have reported on the news that some of the (non-) celebrities were being racist, but nobody is reporting what was actually said or done. What were the words that were used?
