You can get a media pass when you represent a publication whose readers the concert promoters want to reach. When you are working for yourself and trying to build a portfolio, you don't qualify for freebie tickets.

You may be able to get tickets to some events (not the biggest and best) by working with a community newspaper or magazine. You'll provide them with photos, they'll pay you little or nothing but you get the tickets, the photos, and a photo credit line in the paper to add to your portfolio.

By the way, if your spelling and grammar are as bad in the letters and e-mails you are sending out as they are in this posting, no one will take you seriously.

The promoter for the artists have the final say on any and all media. Generally, you will only get a response if you state you are affiliated with a news agency (they do not have time to double-check credentials and you are low on their to-do list). Freelance photography is more tightly controlled - the promoter has no guarantees where the photography will end up and whether it will be flattering to the artists.

My daughter has been pursuing music journalism - and was writing for the local major newspaper as a high-school corespondent. Because she had an assignment editor with the paper that the promoter could easily confirm her credentials with and that her story would be running in a specific section on a specific date, she did not have too many problems getting access. Remember that with a photo press pass you will be herded like cattle and only allowed to shoot the first two or three songs - before you are herded back out the door.

Try getting on with a small arts-focus community paper or find out the name of photographers that regularly shoot for the facility company or major newspapers to see if you can get work as an assistant. Learn the ropes and make connections!

P.S. - improve your grammar and spelling.
