Hobbies & Crafts - July 2006

I am about to take a beginner sewing class at JoAnn's next month and I was wondering who else likes to sew. Is it enjoyable? What types of things can/have you made? I want a hobby that will be fun and useful. What do you think?

I want a hobby where I can spend a little money from time to time, but nothing huge. (I don't want to be buying expensive computer or car parts all the time or anything).

I want something I can do often.. maybe even every day.

I want something that produces a tangible result. "Watching TV" is not a hobby I am looking for!

I'm pretty bad with art... so things like 'painting' are out.

Any suggestions?

I have a large collection of stamps that I need to get valued, but I am aware that in some cases, two similar looking stamps can differ greatly in value depending on details that a novice wouldn't notice. If I take them to bee valued, how can I make sure the dealer doesn't replace any valuable stamps with less valuable, but similar ones? Even if I catalogue/digitally photograph the collection (which is substantial), I don't think I'd be able to tell the difference.

Am I the painting or the frame?
Am I the dice or the entire game?
Am I the shore, or am I the sea?
Am I the thing that lays far from me?
Am I the dove or am I the crow?
Do I have the rythm or do I have the flow?
What am I?
Thats what worry me the most
Am I human or am I a ghost?....

It's probably not high quality birch bark but we've got some big curly strips from our birch tree we just cut down. I want to use it for something! I do simple woodwork projects, are there any ways I can incorporate it into those? But I would like a simple craft project.
