I am about to take a beginner sewing class at JoAnn's next month and I was wondering who else likes to sew. Is it enjoyable? What types of things can/have you made? I want a hobby that will be fun and useful. What do you think?

I love sewing!! It's harder for me to find the time to sew now because my son likes to get in my face when I turn on th sewing machine. I learned to sew when I was a lil girl b/c my mom and grandma taught me. I relearned when I was in the 7th grade in home ec. The beginners usually made vests and boxers then. I was the one that went out and found the most dificult vest pattern and made that as well as the boxers and plain vest everyone else made. I have made overalls, numerous dresses, skirts, pants, quilts, and those things you put in bread baskets to keep the bread warm on the table. I made my prom dress my senior year. It turned out awesome!! No body believed it was home made!!I loved my home ec class! Ms. Stanton was the best teacher ever!!! When you get started, you may get frustrated, but don't give up!! Once you catch on, then the possibilites are endless as to what you can make.Good luck and have fun!!

I love sewing. I started back in jr high when I took sewing in home ec. At first I made simple jumpers and dresses, then moved on to blouses, pants, etc. I have never stopped sewing and learning, Now I make some of my clothes, and my hobby is sewing period clothing for 15th and 18th century living history. The good thing about sewing is that the basic principles, how to use a machine, how to do basic hand stitching, how to read commercial patterns, etc, is reasonably easy to learn, and you can make a whole lot of stuff just using those skills. Or you can continue learning and discover that the hobby can be very complicated and challenging as well. It's up to what you choose to do. Have fun!

I love to sew. My grandmother taught me. I usually make quilts but I have made a few pieces of clothes. I learn the newer methods such as rotary cutting and incorporate that with the old way my grandmother taught me. I now even teach her the time-saving methods. I have bought some patterns to make purses and hats but there are still on my to-do list. I really try to make one small quilt a year to give away as a gift for Christmas as well.

Yeah it is totally fun, as long as you have patience. I am 13 and I just made a purse out of an old pair of jeans and I made it my own. It is really cool. Hope you try it at least.
