This is one my mother used to sing to me when I was a child . I'm nearly 60 now.
The only other time I ever remember hearing it was a long time ago in a very old film when it was playing in the background on a gramaphone. It goes like this
In barefoot days, oh boy the thing we did.
We would go down shady nook, with a pin bent for a hook.
we'd fish all day, and we'd fish all night.
But the darned old fish refused to bite
We'd slide and slide, down some old cellar door
we'd slide and slide till our pants got tore
Then we'd have to go home, and lie in bed
while mother got buisy with the need and thread
Oh, boy, the joy, we had in bare foot days
