They were a very important band, a great live show, just plain fun to listen to, and tackled every genre out there. They were definately the most prominent of the punk rock movement and besides the original innovators (Iggy Pop, Sex Pistols, the Ramones etc.) the most important. I feel pretty passionate about 70's punk and the Clash especially, just seeing who shares those sentiments.
And by fan I mean you know more than "Rock The Casbah" and "Should I Stay Or Should I Go". Besides they're last album (which was hardly the Clash anyways) they put out much better material and most of it is very underrated, including their entire first album (best punk album ever released, no contest).
