I've never listened to jazz before, but I was recently introduced to Pat Metheny Group. I like them a lot, but I've noticed aside from Metheny's guitar I really enjoy when the trumpet is featured. Based on this, what other similar artists/trumpeters should I check out?

I am in my school jazz band and we played lots of jazz but I recommend Blue Monk by Thelonious Monk, Mercy, Mercy, Mercy by Josef Zawinul, Birdland by Weather Report or for a really great trumpet player Maynard Fergurson, he rules!!!!
