They were a very important band, a great live show, just plain fun to listen to, and tackled every genre out there. They were definately the most prominent of the punk rock movement and besides the original innovators (Iggy Pop, Sex Pistols, the Ramones etc.) the most important. I feel pretty passionate about 70's punk and the Clash especially, just seeing who shares those sentiments.

And by fan I mean you know more than "Rock The Casbah" and "Should I Stay Or Should I Go". Besides they're last album (which was hardly the Clash anyways) they put out much better material and most of it is very underrated, including their entire first album (best punk album ever released, no contest).

London Calling is an awesome song, the album was awesome in general. I actually got the record from my aunt and uncle lol. The songs is #15 out of 500 in RS top 500 songs and the album is #8 on top 500 albums, pretty good.

The New York Dolls were good, my favorite protopunk was from the Stooges though, and maybe MC5. "Jet Boy" "Personality Crisis" and "Trash" were my favorites, they're cover of "Pills" was great too, and I should say The Clash's debut was the best in my opinion. I'm actually listening to "Trash" right now though.

I completely agree... Richard was it? If I could play an instrument worth a crap I'd kickstart the revolution myself or die trying, because this hip-hop/rap junk needs to go. I don't know too much about the Hot Rods, but the Ramones and the Pistols were both beyond great too, along with the Heartbreakers and the Damned those are probably my five favorites.

Nah, that doesn't make you weird Alii, I'd probably kiss Joe Strummer on the lips if he was alive and I got to meet him, THAT's weird.

My favorite all time band, right now, is Iggy Pop and the Stooges. Specifically, I love the Raw Power album. "Death Trip" rules. Regarding the Clash, it was surprising to hear how diverse they were after first hearing London Calling. I love "Jimmy Jazz"("Feel like a soldier, look like thief" is an awesome line.

Hello.Yes i think they will always be classed as punk because they emerged at the time of punk...If you go by the the book.....My own personal opinion is that i've never really understood this catergorizing of bands .They all cross over.Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols actually plays a metal style.Hence bands like The Cult and Killing Joke labelled post punk are now playing heavy metal. The Police were also labelled punk.I consider them to be as much punk as Frank Sinatra was.Although Roxanne was a punk single.I agree with what you say but you ll have to accept the punk label for The Clash.

Loved the Clash and all their albums (except "Cut the Crap"). My fave rave: "White Man in Hammersmith Palais". Loved the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Eddie and the Hot Rods, etc. We need another musical revolution now to save us from all this sound-alike hip-hop drivel.

As far as bands go... The R-A-M-O-N-E-S are one of my all time favorites. How could you turn down Psycho Therapy?
