Music - 14 August 2006

I heard this over the radio at the gym today. It goes like this "turn the lights on/off; carry me home..." or something like that. I don't know the exact lyrics because I have a 40% hearing loss.

Another song I'm trying to figure out is one called "Collide," I think. I'm not sure who sings it though (my mom likes it).

You really don't to be able to sing to be a "great" singer apparently nowadays. I'm so through with witnessing the degredation of American music. For example- first Ashanti, then Keyshia Cole, and now this Cassie chick? what the... When did music turn to crap and why? And can we reclaim it?
Remember when hip hop was ABOUT something? It wasn't offensive, obnoxious, or rude- it was just FUN. People actually had to have talent to be rappers (ex. "I Need Love" LL Cool J, Public Enemy's "fight the power", Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, The message)

Is it just me or do certain kinds of music help you write? To me, if I'm writing something and I'm listening to something like The Decemberists or Murder by Death, I seem to write better. but when I put in System of a Down or Disturbed, anything I write...isn't any good.

I could really use some help. I need a small compact traditional Radio / CD Player system for my bedroom. I do not need one with a MP3 player, or one that plays more than three CDs. However, I would like somthing with big sound, that is small, simple, and elegant. Any help would be wonderful!

In a very recent question about best album ever, 3 of the first seven answers (me included) gave a Floyd album as best ever.

Does this mean that they are so great that a large proportion of people think they are the best, or

Does it mean that fans of Floyd are more inclined to visit sites like this.

My Grandfather died a month ago and me and my mother are going through his house looking for things to keep and get rid of. I stumbled across a collection of old 8 tracks. All of them were in brand new condition still wrapped in cellaphane. Among them were Pink Floyds, some with 6x6 wall flags in the packaging, many Led Zeppelins, Mamas and the Papas, and several other collectors items. Yesterday I went back again and the 8 tracks weren't where I left them. I asked her what she did with them and she said she threw them away!!! I was sick. I asked her where so I could go get them but she took them to a trash compactor and they had already been crushed she said. She asked me who would want an 8 track anyway? Nobody uses those anymore she said. I am so mad at her!!! After explaining that they were collectors items she understood but they are long gone now.
