In the movie, instead of cash money, years of life are traded or sold. The movie follows a male character's growth. I remember the male character is allowed to visit this "secret" place that everyone is allowed to visit once in their life. Here at this place you can ask for a favor and if the "monk-like" man wishes he can grant your request. This is all I remember, and I've never met anyone who knows what I'm talking about. It may have been made in the 80s.

ive seen it once and that's all i need to see it, i dont have to watch it once a month. yes it was a good movie but not worth watching everytime it comes on tv.
