I've always wondered: did "hassinfrassin" and all the rest of it actually mean something, or was it just random syllables?

We know that a rock band (for example) generally consists of a lead singer, a lead guitarist, a bass guitarist and a drummer. I'm thinking of the Beatles, The Who, Guns N' Roses as examples. Where did this band structure develop and what was the first band to have this structure? Was it The Beatles? That is the earliest band I can think of with that type of structure.
