What does it mean when someone writes "Regards", and then their names. I know the meaning of it, but it doesn't make sense. The meaning I know is "look upon", or something.

I'm pretty tolerant of misspellings and of common errors, especially in a forum like this, it's not formal writing, so who really cares? BUT - there are some things that people should just know! Starting with that! Know vs no!

Other important things:

-Who's vs whose
-they're, their, there
-wit is a clever expression; with is the preposition that means "to accompany"

..and more.

Communication and language are the back bone of civilizations. Without the capability to effectively communicate with each other, our society will stop functioning!

Who agrees? Who disagrees? Why?

Reading these questions and answers, I estimate (albeit not scientifically) that about 80 to 90% of people posting here are poor spellers (not to mention grammatically challanged). Is it because they can't, or because they don't care? After all, there is a spell checking function readily available.....

I see it everywhere! You do NOT pluralize words with apostrophes. The most popular examples are usually "CD's" or "DVD's," when it should just be "CDs" and "DVDs." Or how about, "I got three A's on my report card"? LAME! You don't do it "because it looks right," because it honestly doesn't. Who were these offenders' teachers? Complete morons?

I have always believed that all knowledge is useful sooner or later ,to someone, at sometime. Is this another term for trivia, perhaps? Or was someone making up a term to insult another who perhaps seemed to "know" to much?

Help, British experts! I have heard this used on British tv-shows as a word for cat, pets, cats and dogs, and can't find a dictionary reference to this usage. In the Oxford English Dictionary it says "moggy" is used as slang for a calf (perhaps from the name Maggie).

Does anyone know what animals this term can be used for IRL in Britain?
thanks!
