A drunk nun staggers onto a railway track after a particularly heavy party, and lands semi-conscious onto the track. A late train approaches at high speed yet still manages to brake just in time and misses hitting her. How did the driver manage this?
There were no street lamps in the area, the train lights didn't have the range to see her from the distance, the nun was wearing all black, didn't have a torch or any illuminating clothing on her, there was nothing else blocking the track the driver stopped for, and there was no audible warning of any kind. There was only a new Moon. The track had no special device fitted to enable the driver to stop in time either, so how did he manage it?
