A student in one of my EFL classes learns at an incredible pace, but is extremely shy and has trouble talking above a whisper. I tell her to shout when she speaks with the idea that practicing the opposite extreme might strenghthen her voice, but I´m not sure how best to help her. Any ideas or good resources that you might recommend?

She needs to know what she needs to do to get her daughter tested, her daughter is in 1st grade and has trouble with learning.
To see if she has any disabilities that causing her to have trouble with learning.


her grandpa has a learning disability.
Her uncle is mild mentally handicapped.
Her aunt has mild mental retardation.
She does wear glasses.
Her aunt and uncle was in special education.
Her aunt graduated from high school in 2004.
Her uncle will be graduating from high school in 2007.

He can memerize any thing but to actually read for his self he can not discern words, he can not tell the difference between the words his and hers. Has anyone heard of a disorder like this, the school does not believe he is dyslexic, but can not tell us a way to help him. He has been tutored, and his mother works with him, but he does not comprhend. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We also live in a rural area with very limited resources for the school system.
