Solve for R:

Can someone explain the metric system to me please, with respect to kilometers, meters, centimeters, millimeters, and micrometers. I know it's based on a scale of 10 but I really don't get it and I'm not so good at math. Why is it so easy as people say it is? Can you explain how it works. Thanks!
