The world Health Organization approved indoor use of the pesticide DDT, a chemical which must be applied by professionals that aims at repel and kill insects, to lower the death rate in malaria-affected regions, such as Africa, Asia, and other countries as well. The organization believes that appropriate use of DDT can temporarily control malaria since no better replacement is found yet. However, the opposed side, the Pesticide Action Network North America, argue that DDT may cause health problems in our children, such as premature birth and development delay. Besides, early DDT use evidenced its side effects in the environment including thinning of bird eggshells and population decline in certain species.
