Here's one of mine:

"There is always something to do. There are hungry people to feed, naked people to clothe, sick people to comfort and make well. And while I don't expect you to save the world, I do think it's not asking too much for you to love those with whom you sleep, share the happiness of those whom you call friend, engage those among you who are visionary and remove from your life those who offer you depression, despair and disrespect."

~Nikki Giovanni

I am doing a clinical at an elementary school and the teacher wants me to teach something over voting (an activity). She gave me a folder of things that she had, but she said she couldn't find anything in it. Not to mention most of it is for younger students. I have to make a lesson plan this weekend and I'm having no luck finding anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If the definition of plagiarizing is "to take and use ideas, passages, etc. from (another's work) by plagiarism", then just HOW am I suppose to answer my professor's question to "discuss the western landscape" in Death Comes for the Archbishop? All the ideas on how and why the landscape is used have been used time and time again by many students, critical reviers, and more! *sigh* I'm so stuck here. I can re-hash their ideas in "my own words" but the "ideas" are the same!

For an instructor to call her student who hasn't been in class for a week or a few days well into the semester to see how she is doing and why she hasn't come?

I thought professors don't care what you do or if you're gone and they won't call you ever because it's college?

What do you think?

I work at a high school with special ed kids (14-22 years old) and today one of my male students hit me in the back of my head (close fisted) while I was feeding another student. My back was turned to him. He hit me hard enough to knock my head forward and hit the top of the table. This kid is 18..tall and strong...huge hands. He's also mentally disabled and does not talk. To him, hitting, punching, grabbing and pinching of staff and other students is a game that's played every day of the school year. His parents know of this behavior and do nothing to support the efforts of the educators.
While I'm able to defend myself, I worry about the other students who are in wheelchairs and unable to cry out or defend themselves against attacks.
Back to the question...While my head hurts like h*ll, I actually feel sorry for him and find myself defending him. My husband on the other hand believes it's an assult no matter what the mental capacity of the person is .

Does it take as long to obtain your masters degree if you go to college online, or is it the same as campus college

I can't believe how many people seem to not practice critical thinking to any extent. They just go by rules, what people tell them and so on. Do you think that there should be more emphasis on logic, analytical thinking and being able to detect the tricks (logical fallacies) that people like politicians and salesmen use to convince people of something?

What ways (courses, course requirements, etc.) do you think would help achieve a better proficiency at critical thinking among college-educated people?
