In the competition for the JSF, (Now F-35) do you think Boeing were paid off to fail?
A company with such a history and skill were totally beaten in that competition. Their aeroplane prover was a terrifyingly ugly failure.
I just can't believe a company as good as Boeing got it all so wrong.
Does anybody else suspect they were paid to fail?

Oh, I'm British and I was part of the JSF team in the early days and have no axe to grind either way.

Is the fusilage not strong enough? A small chute could provide very useful extra drag. A chute wouldn't impose much weight penalty? The chute would be only for emergency use.

i mean when you are passing clouds while you climb, and the temperatures are from 0 up to -15°C (in this temperatures the icing is a real threat), you need to enable the anti-ices, because you will always (or almost) pass the clouds while climbing and the temperatures will often be in these levels mentioned above.

On Tuesday afternoon, I saw a large aeroplane decending to land at East Midlands Airport. It had a large disc attached over the middle of it. It was larger and louder than a regular commercial plane. Does anyone know what type of aircraft this was?

The Cessnas include a family of three trainers, the 140, 150 and 152. The Pipers start with the Cherokee 140 and later the Tomahawk.

I have my favorite. Which is yours and why?

the same in reverse, ie tail wind then speed will indicate 50mph. if it were 100mph headwind and plane flies at 100mph it would be registering either 100mph and standing still(still flying due to aerodynamics) or registering 200mph. Please do not include any GPS answers as speed was measured long before these came about.
In cars, there is always a fixed point, ie wheel to road. the same could be said about planes as boats to a certain extent.
please help, i know its sad but this really is bothering me.
thanks.

I want to know about the positioning of wings in Aircrafts. In some aircrafts, the wings are placed at the top of fuselage, while in some aircrafts its at the middle and in some aircrafts its at the bottom. Why these different positioning of wings, what difference does each make and which is the best position?

Thanks,
Jayanth.

I have always seen this, but never thought to ask. Why do airlines skip seat "B"? They usually label them A-C on one side, and then D-E-F on the other.
