I had a part-time job in 2006. Earlier in the year, I did not receive a statement from my employer with my earnings total, taxes, etc. I should have been able to collect that which I paid in Fed and State taxes. Is it still possible to file for (and receive) the return now?

My son is 21 years old, a full time college student and is covered under our medical insurance policy. When he files his taxes he wants to be able to take his own deductions on his return. I hope this makes sense.

I am so sick of paying off my back taxes, particularly since I know my money is helping to continue the obscene war in Iraq. [It's also frustrating what their liens are doing to my credit history.]

Is there any way I could write a statement on the back of the check [in small print underneath the endorsement area] that reads something like, "By cashing this check, the IRS and U.S. Treasury agrees that the Payer owes no further money for back taxes on any years"?

If you buy products with a wholesaler's license does the government require you to report your profits if you resale the stuff or is that only required if you have a business license and are running a business.

Last year my husband (then boyfriend) got a $4500 return. He only claimed himself all year on his paychecks (witholding for 1) Then tax return time claimed our daughter.

This year he claimed himself & also our daughter (witholding for 2)

Does this mean he cannot claim her as a dependant come tax return time? Will we now get a really small return? He will make about $23,000. In July federal had taken out $800.

I saw some television show and have also heard about a book that tells how income taxes are unconstitutional. I havn't gotten around to reading it but if someone is familiar with this could you briefly explain the logic or facts behind this argument. Also, if it's true why is our country not goign crazy about this?

I live in the Chicagoland area. We already have one of the highest if not the highest taxes on cigarrettes in the country. They are proposing another $1 raise in the tax. I think we already pay like 3x the amount of money in taxes as the product costs. I know people don't like smokers but the government shouldn't keep going after smokers because they can't properly manage their money. Aren't there laws about unfair taxes? Wouldn't all these taxes on ciggarrettes violate this law as every 6 months they are propsoing to raise the taxes another dollar.
