I was told you pay the higher of the two, but I was also told you pay both. Which is correct?

Wow my instructor for computer software engineering told the class that she only paid taxed where she lived. I don't know. So you live in one city but work in another.

Most places do not have local income tax, so you pay only to whichever place does. If both places do, then the rule would probably be the same as if you work in one state and live in another.

That depends upon where you are. Different states with local taxes have different rules on the subject.

The government couldn't care less where you work, they only know where to send the bill (where you live).

I always thought it was just where your residence is located.
