I was just wondering....how do you take taxes out of your own paycheck? Thinking of starting a business and I don't want to owe thousands of dollars at tax time. I live in NC if that makes a difference...

We file a return.
We pay tax fees in 4 sets in a year for the tax we have filed.
We get tax return.
This return is always less than the sum of tax fees we pay in the year.

I dont understand why should we file a tax when we get lesser return.

Can someone explain me the need of each step as you would do to a common man?

Recently, I purchased a single family home from a builder. Are the closing costs that I paid tax deductible? Also, if I refinance this year itself, are these closing costs and/or points tax deductible as well? Any information is greatly appreciated!

I have an investment property abroad, and it is cashflow negative. I've heard that I can only write off deductions on my US tax at sale, not annually like I would if it were a US property. Can I write off these deductions on my US income tax?

for a car accident where he was hit by a drunk driver in December of 2003 (it took that long to get settled). When this tax season comes around and we file our taxes are we going to have to pay tax on it? Or how does that work? I don't want any surprises when it comes around. Thanks in advance.

I was always under the impression that any monetary gifts to my children would cost me a substantial gift tax. I recently heard that in reality, it would just reduce the amount of estate that I can leave "tax free" at the time of my death.

Hypothetically, if an employer pays an employee cash each week instead of a paycheck, and says that although they are earning 8 an hour they will only actually receive 6 because taxes are taken out, then refuses to provide W2's at the end of employment so the employee can file, who should the employee contact? This is a retail position, not contract labor. Thanks
