If someone does not want a social security number anymore, so they dont have to pay a tax that they cant afford to pay (i gotta save to open up my business, and Social Security is something I dont think I should have to pay, because 1. I wont see the money. 2. If i am going to see the money, i kinda need it right now.... and since it is my money.... i should have full say over it, rather than someone else telling me what i will do with it.. since i worked for it =).

So... how do i disolve my Social Security Number?

Hi there, For the year I have so far paid just over $10,000 for tuition and books, I was wondering if I am able to claim this on my taxes. I claim myself and thats it. Im single, no kids and work full time and make about 12,000 a year. I am 20 years old and pay rent. i don't know if any of that info is important or not but I was wondering how much of the tuition i can claim and then how much I could expect to see back? Thanks so much!

I don't understand why people donate to get credit on their taxes. Wouldn't it make more sense to say save that $250-1k and use that on paying taxes as apposed to giving it away for a tax break? What are the benefits of such a contribution. I've never had to pay into my taxes, but if I can find a way to get more back, ie. donations or maxing out my IRA I'll do that. I want to stiff the IRS for everything they've been taking from me, any idea's, (lets keep this gray and semi-legal)

Hello, I've been doing contracting work since late January and only have just realized that I should have been paying taxes quarterly. I've saved money and have every intention of paying the taxes for them and realize now that I will be penalized. In general, what will I have to pay (interest, penalties)?

If I made a capital gain in late December 2007, can I not claim it in 2007 and use it in 2008, or am I required to add it to my 2007 income?

We usually file at HR Block, and always take advantage of getting our refund within 2 - 3 days.I have recently heard early refunds will not be given this year.Does this apply to businesses who offer this feature?

My W-2's in those years are both approax. 2,800. In theory, I could file for those years and take the EIC for more refunds, right? What is more upsetting to the IRS, being a non-filer or filing solely to take a refund?

Follow up question: I applied for a tax examiner position and will be going in with my documentation soon. With my head held high I will submit one form stating I did not file in '04 or '05. Actually, this is now a two part question: Is this foolish of me to do? and would not filing totally trash my chances of becoming a tax examiner this season?

My husband was labeled as a “contract laborer” for an employer, but he was an actual employee (i.e. he was paid by the hour, clock in/out, etc.). The guy never took taxes out of any of his checks, and I was very skeptical. As a result I made a copy of each of his checks! I am sure that he did all of this to escape paying taxes…

I had my husband call the guy and ask if he would be sending out 1099’s or W2’s, and he said yes. However, when my husband asked if he had an EIN he changed the subject and got off the phone with my husband.

It is my intent to file this income with the IRS, but I am afraid that this guy doesn’t have an EIN number. I spoke with someone at H&R Block, and they have informed me that more than likely my husband will get a 1099, but my gut says it’s highly unlikely. He also informed me that it was a smart move on my part to make copies, because many of these guys lie about how much was made by individuals on 1099’s.

How do I report this income without an EIN? Can I input this info as a W2 and not a 1099? Plus, I am using the online software.
