I recently bought a house, so I now itemize my tax returns. My finances are very simple. Can I write off student loan interest? medical expenses not covered by insurance? I do charitable donations, but am trying to get more creative. What about work clothes (suits)? Laptop (if I use it for work from time to time)?

I know a guy who is a waiter in a restaurant. He gets around $1000 as wage, by check. But he also makes $150- $200 per week extra as
tips given by customers. As these are undocumented income and it varies highly, is there any problem if he don't show it on tax papers?

I maintain that there may even be a Federal Law forbidding sales tax on staple foods like milk, eggs, bread and such. Some one told me that it varies state to state. I think they are wrong.

Tax Credits are chasing me for an overpayment they made tax year 2004 to 2006.

I left my now ex husband in january 2006 and I am a lone parent.

The wages for the year were only £1,200 above the estimate. So I have been writting letters constantly requestion information and their reasons as to why we need to pay them back when we were within the £2,500 threashold.

They are now saying that yes I am right about the threashold BUT not in my case because we didn't inform them within 3 months.

1st of all, I left my ex before the end of the tax year
2nd, I left because of domestic abuse
3rd, after everything, how can they expect me to stick around and find out exactly what he did earn???
4th, they are chasing ME for the money, not him.

Please help! I'm desparate to sort this out, I've been to CAB and they can't help me further.
Is there anyone who's been through the same thing? What did you do?

Hello. Once upon a time I was a website and database developer and have changed careers. I now work in healthcare.

I am doing a research project that requires my skills as a database developer and I am doing it for FREE. Is there anyway I could write off the hours I spend on this project to save money on taxes?

It is non-profit medical research carried out at state facilities.

Thank you
