Dogs of the Dow theory made famous by Michael O'Higgins. It takes all of the research, strategy and guesswork out of investing. Here's how it works
~ Once each year, look at the 30 stocks in the Sensex and pick the 10 with the highest dividend yield. A high dividend yield is an indication that a stock is under-priced. According to the Dogs of the Dow theory, such stocks are the best candidates for a jump in their prices.
I would like to choose 30 stocks as per this theory from sensex so help how to go about.

.. and on Tuesday the shares fell almost immediately (hullo deja vu) this time because the company issued 'convertible bonds' equivalent to 10% of the total share value .. in other words am I right in saying that in the meantime I've lost 10% of my investment? what is a convertible bond anyway.

Hi, I am interested in investing and stocks and i had a couple questions. How old do you have to be to invest? I'm 16 and i have a part-time job which i hope to put that money into either stocks or something i can see grow over time. Also, do most of you (stock investors) use companies such as TDameritrade or Charles Schwab to help you with investing? Or would stocks not be a good idea for me at my age?

I have read a bit on Suze Ormans book but i feel a bit overwhelemed. I plan on putting 500 to start so i guess i would have to invest into small companies? Any help or ideas would be very appreciated.

So basically buying put options makes no sense as you cannot realize a profit no matter what.

Will somone please explain to me how it is possible? Do you borrow the stocks? What do you do to make money?

Please don't give me the definition of put opions or call options and please dont tell me that they just do make money i want a detaiuled explanation as well as an example. Thanks

I'd like to meet some other investors in person, just to have a beer with and exchange views. We could even make an investment club or something like that, where we pool our resources and knowledge, You may all have something like that already, unfortunately I don't, hehe. I wouldn't want to be the one to be in charge of those funds, BTW.

So i understand what options are, but i dont know how you can possibly make money off of put options. I understand how you can make a profit off of call options, but making money off of put options is very hard to understand. I see "beating around the bush" answers for this question everywhere. They'll give you a perfect description and thorough example of call options and then they'll give you a very crappy explanation and example of put options. It seems like everyone who explains options and are supposedly geniuses of the options world dont' even know what the hell they are talking about when it comes to Put options.

So my question is this: How can you possibly make money off of put options when they are only in the money when the underlying stock's price falls below the strike price?

What do you think? Has the street bought the rumor and will sell the news? At the moment the market is flat, is it waiting for Tues?

I think if the Fed cut is 25 basis points we may see a sell off, with a 50 basis point anything goes, but I do not anticipate 50 points.

If I buy a stock (say Apple) at $190, it goes down to $160 and I sell it. To be eligible to take the loss (in tax return), do I have to wait another 30 days before re-buying Apple stock? If yes, then I was thinking how to evade the 30 day rule. Can I sell Apple at $160 to take the loss, but rebuy it in my wife's account at $160 (hoping that it will go up) and I make money while taking the loss as well? Can I still take the loss in tax return even though we file jointly?
thanks!
