I would like to open up a CD account and I am unsure of what a good rate is. I only want to invest between 3-$500 and for possibly a 6 month term. Is this unreasonable?

Also, I am looking to open a savings account that will also accrue interest and I am having trouble finding high rates. B of A offered me one that requires a $300 minimum and the interest rate is .02% APY. Isn't this ridiculously low? I spoke with an associate and she told me it is compounded daily and paid out every month. So if I deposited $300 would I be accruing only 60 cents per YEAR??? I hope I am misunderstanding these rates.

Please advise!

Just recently, i took a hard look at myself. I realized that i dont have any special skill that other people might have. I dont have anything that i am really good at.

I'm a finance student. Will be graduated in 2 years. I dont know where will i ended up after that. I dont think i am knowledgable to work in any financial institution either. What i know about my study are those from the book, which cant apply to the real world situation. (especially investment). I've took a investment class but i still dont know how to invest money in the reality.

But i am not completely worst, coz i know a little bit of everything. But a litte bit of everything wont be able to make a living from that right?

Please comment on the person like me.

My CD only earns 4.65% and after taxes it is dissapointing. I just don't want to loss any of my pricipal so I tend to stay out of the stock market. Where can I find the kind of investment that earns 8-10% interest and the principal is secure?

I have $6,000 I want to invest, but I only have 8 months before I need to pull this money, and its profit (hopefully) out for a down payment on a mortgage (i'm not suggesting this will be all the money I put down, but follow me along here). My question is should I invest in a mutual fund (is 8 months enough to see profitability?), stocks (i have a few in mind), or maybe even a 5% annual yield savings account ? Suggestions from those who actually know

i know that they split the shares, but what are the effects of that on the stock itself? I just looked at some charts of stocks and saw that some stocks were split at a point in time. Does that mean that a stock might go up or down? Or is there no correlation between that whatsoever?

I am not able to understand how the calculation of return works. When i look into the fund history, I see that the YTD performance is 8.74%. So if i had invested 2500$ i should have already got $200, but I havent.

so is the 8.74% that they claim is in capital gain or dividend ?
How do I know when the fund will actually pay the investor.
