I get quarterly reports on my 457(b) plan. I almost always have gains, however, I am unsure on how to determine if the investment options are strong earners, or merely mediocre. What is the process for determining if the investment's I've chosen are strong when the option amounts change due to varying bi-weekly contributions? How would I determine if the gains are good in the following example for one quarter?
Example:
Beginning Balance: $5,011.33
Contributions / Transfers In: $370.00
Gain/(Loss) / Interest: $136.68
Ending Balance: $5,518.01

Since starting in 10/02 I have contributed $3993.00 and had gains of $1525.01. However, the contribution amounts have varied greatly over this time period. So what is the proper gage on success? At 35 years old, my investments are diversified between high and moderate risk with some low risk mixed in.

I'm so confused how bonds work. Also what do you anticipate will happen to bond prices and yields to both treasury and corporate bonds.

Prior to the split, the company has a market value of $5 billion with 100 million shares outstanding. Assuming that the split conveys no new information on the company, what is the value of the company, the number of shares outstanding and price per share after the split? If the actual market price immediately follow the split is $17.00 per share, what does this tell us about market efficiency?

I understand the whole gaining money from capital and buying stocks when they're low and selling when they're high priced. But lets say you buy a stock for 98 dollars and the stock price for the company grows to 105 dollars. What would be your profit if you sold your share at this price???Also, how do you know if the company gives quarterly dividends?

I've heard these 2 guys talking about compound stock earnings on talk radio, and I've checked out their website, but I'm still not sure what they are talking about. 1. Is this program a scam? 2. How does it work? 4. Sounds like you need to own stocks before enrolling, true? 5. They keep talking about options, what does this mean? 6. What are covered calls? 7. Do these guys work on commission or do you pay a fee upfront? 8. Has anyone actually gotten rich using this service?
