I am nearing a transaction for the sale of my business and would like to know some good ideas as to how I should invest at least 65% of it in personal investments.

What are some good websites as to how to learn about Roth IRA, stocks, cds, bonds, etc? I would like to invest some of that 65% into stocks, and I've heard that you should do at least an hour of research on each stock you purchase per week. Is that a good idea?

Any general finance informational website and/or forum/messageboard link would be great.

I have heard from several individuals that it is only a matter of time before the economy tanks and that we are about to enter a economic depression. I am a college student and really want to start investing some of my cash in either precious metals and stocks... is now a good time to do it? Do you think the economy will tank in the foreseeable future?

Is it possible for me to open an investment account in the USA? I wish to purchase dollars and interest rates in the USA of 5.25% look encouraging.

As the pound is now worth over $2 is it a prudent investment to buy dollars in the expectation that that the value of the pound will fall? Looking at historical data the pound has been worth less than $2 since 1976. In 1981 the pound was strong (almost = $2.5) but by 1985 it had dropped sharply to almost £1 = $1. I'm thinking the exchange rate is due a correction in time...

When you buy a company's stock, you are buying a fraction of the company.

If a company has 10 million shares

and if the stock price goes up $20 dollars in a given year

then is it logical to say that all the buyers and sellers during that same year, all of their "monetary gains and losses" will add up to $200,000,000.00 ?

Because if it is, then it sorta implies that to make profits in the stock market, you either make an "average profit" and if you do superior, your gains are at the expense of those who do inferior.

I define these in the following inequality

inferior
I ask this because I have studied finance and there are losers who are smart yet not logical enough to see that people who simply "hold stocks" for an entire given year simply shrink the amount of shares available for trading during that same year.

Therefore concluding people who "actively trade" only do so at each other's expense, and their group makes no "magic profit"
Because

What is up with this? Has the US. Gov. completely gone to "Crap" ? Do you have to have an inside track with G.W. Bush? How can the stock market go from below 10,000 when I purchased the bond to over 13,000 now...and it's market value just goes down lower more and more all the time? What's the deal? I will never purchase a US Bond ever again. I am beginning to think that America is really in trouble.

I have just read MSN's StockScouter report about Apple Inc. ( http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/StockRating/transparency.asp?Symbol=AAPL ) and it says there that:

• The price-to-sales multiple is significantly higher than the average for all stocks in the StockScouter universe. Very positive for a medium- to large-sized company like AAPL

How come?

I called a broker and asked what I could do with $1000 to invest. I didn't want long term mutual funds, or bonds - I just wanted to risk the cash and buy something I could watch go up or down on the market - He said with such a small amount of money he'd be wasting his time to work with me. Is my idea really that crazy?
