Here is the deal. I invest in individual stocks and Janus mutual funds. I started with Janus back in 1997 and of course they did excellent till the crash of 2000-2003....Now I am back in the black and they are doing fairly well again......It looks like they are more diversified now but still very aggressive....I would hate to give it all back again if another crash hits. BUT, at the same time, I don't want to pay heavy taxes either or put the money in another FUND and then it does poorly........So, should I just keep on with them and ride it out? I'm 42...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to know a country or international bank where I can deposit my money and have a high interest yield on my money. Please tell me countries that are stable countries. I do not want countries where their currency fluctuates widely with the dollar.

Which online bank is better for starting a savings account, Countrywide Bank or E-Loan (both have 5.25% APY at $10,000)? I know several people who bank with Countrywide Bank that seem pleased. Does anyone use E-Loan? Thanks...

2007-01-21 05:31:25 · 2 answers · asked by Dodger 2

I know with:

WTDirect at 5.26% yield, but you have to have more than $10,000 in the bank
HSBCDirect and EmigrantDirect at 5.05% yield with no minimum deposit
INGDirect at 4.95% with no minimum deposit

Does anyone know of any other banks that give similar interest rates or even higher interest rates than these online banks?

My son and daugther are 4.5 years apart in age. My son was the first grandchild and my grandmother showered him with various stocks and investments. By the time my daughter came along, there were too many great-grandchildren and Grandma couldn't keep up. I want to even my kids up, but my daughter shouldn't have the same amount as my son as she's younger. Is there some formula that I can use to determine how much my daughter should have compared to my son to insure that they're somewhat close in value when they take over the accounts when they're grown. Obviously, subject to market fluctuations. When I buy an investment now, I buy the same one for both, so that if one pick is good or bad, they're affected equally.

We are planning to buy a house in the next 10-12 months and we need that 20% down payment. And even though we are still contributing to our savings account we probably wont be able to reach $20,000 in that amount of time. Further, it makes no sense to let $5k sitting in a savings account which interest rate is .20%. Please help! Need safe investment ideas!
