I have 6 years experience in financial modeling and financial analysis. What are the specific activities of a Private Equity firm? How do I round-up some investors who will put their money in the firm for investment? What are the day-to-day activities? What skills do I need? Thanks for your insights!

My husband and I just fired our financial advisor. Over the last 8 years this advisor who charged us fees had lost us approximately $1.2 million in the value of our account. We were in a diversified portfolio of about 8 mutual funds plus 2 bond funds (medium & long term) and some adjustments have been made along the way. We were told and were presented evidence back in the mid 90's that there had never been a rolling 10 year period where stock prices had negative returns. Except now.

We have now decided to put our money where everyone else goes for protection, insurance companies! Many insurance companies have been around for over 100 years. Yes, some do fail but compared to everything else out there they are very safe.

We want to put our money into annuities which pay interest each year. We also understand annuities are available that pay interest based on a stock index. Also, in 1 year we want to begin to receive a fixed monthly income for life from an immediate annuity.

At the moment I have five mututal funds with Vanguard in my Roth IRA. The fees are low and everything is indexed...I'll never jump the shark I guess. I recently upped my international fund to 20% and want to know if I am covering myself for quality growth or am I missing anything. Is this low cost way of going about my retirement the best bet?

I am currently 26-years of age and would love to know what people think about the funds I am working with and if I should turn it up a notch and get into different sectors with more risk. I max out this fund every year and will do so again this year and have a few thousand more to put in this year, which I need "help" putting into the proper fund.

Here they are...

18% in VHGEX Vanguard Global Equity

22% in VIMSX Vanguard Mid Cap Index

21% in VISVX Vanguard Small Cap Index

18% in VTIVX Vanguard Target Retirement 2045

21% in VTSMX Vanguard Total Market Index

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Answers :o)

I have found that websites, like yahoo finance, is only showing charts with no longer than 5 days of information. Why is this. In particular I'm looking for the S&P/TSX Composite index. Can you recommend your favorite website for charts.

I have tried to get links to financiers or investors who are willing to invest in Nigeria but to no avail. All the links i have tried eventually ask me to register or make a deposit before i could be linked up.

My possition is this,I do not have a dime nor credit card for now because I am pressently unemployed, and it amazes me for someone to ask me for money when I am seeking for loan or finance.

What I want to say is that I have a simple and innovative idea for investment in Nigeria that would be money spinning. Now when you say Nigeria, it stirs reactions as to the various conceptions people have, but i will like to itterate that it is a haven of opprtunity, and the largest market for any bright idea.

What am looking for is a financier or partnership that will like to be on ground so as to understand the nature and potentials of this investment and will be willing to finance.I will explain more with a suitable or potential financier or partner.

Ideally, I would like to manage gasoline price risk in 5-10,000 gallon increments. I am familiar with futures markets, and in ag commodities they have "mini" contracts -- 1,000 bu vs. the standard 5,000 bu. Just wondering if there are any products available in the gasoline market. I would also be interested in any "new-style" market approaches allowing me to manage a smaller portion of risk. -- I do remember seeing a website at one time that was trying to do this, very early development at the time and don't remember the address.
