I recently moved back to my home town and found it in a state of disrepair. The local economy is embarassingly weak and the newly relocated gangbangers are going to turn the whole town into a crackhouse if my fellow hometowners don't get off the couch and give each other something constructive and profitable to do.

My fix involves establishing a local stock exchange and including the stock of local businesses in thoughtfully arranged compensation packages for local workers. This should allow the locals to foster some concern about the lawlessness that's been errupting.

With a 'rational self-interest' involved in our lives, we'll definitely be more prone to do the little things that equal substantial improvements. Tens of thousands of people in this suburb...

...hrmmm sounds kinda like Iraq... the locals aren't getting work - you know? If they all had jobs and stock in HAL and KBR, they wouldn't cause as much trouble. They might even become more pro-active.

but I take comfort in doing little things to not be such a jerk to the world. For instance, I refuse to fill-up at Shell stations because of the impact Shell has had on the Nigerian economy, environment, etc. (it is important to me as my family spent some time living in Nigeria). However, I'd be more comfortable if I knew what other oil companies in Canada are associated with Shell. I know that Beaver and a few others in Ontario are, but can anyone give me any other ideas of what I should be looking out for? Is there a socially responsible oil company (haha) I should stick with?

I was given a remote car starter as a gift and it said on the package "easy to install" well it's not and I want to return it. All the pieces are still new and I didn't attempt to install them or anything. The plastic packaging is just cut open at the top. Will Walmart take it w/o the receipt?

I shipped out packages back in november through DHL. They were supposed to be shipped ground. When I checked the tracking the next day to be sure that the shipment was on its way across the country, they were shipped already! It was next day service. The problem arose when the delivery man said he would fill out the correct forms for ground shipping and not the express shipping. When i called to let them no there was this error they said they would issue a price adjustment and everything would be ok. I wrote down all names of people i spoke with and the ref #'s. Well here we are 1 month later and the credit card charges are the next day prices. Now they say procedure was not followed correctly and they have to research this issue in order to send me a refund and it is going to take 10 days! I feel this is an error on their part and they should fedex and overnight me the refund checks (FEDEX)! (BTW they can't refund the credit card they have to send checks in the mail)

The shoes cost $39.99, shipping to Canada $18.95 by UPS and then the UPS man presents me with another bill for brokerage fees of $29.55. The shoes had to cross the border but do they have to inspect them for bombs or something? What the heck are brokerage fees going to UPS for anyways? It is enough to stop someone in Canada using Ebay for anything!

I heard that and from now on my shopping will be done at TARGET stores who use "Merry Christmas" in their stores and their commercials on TV.

By being optimistic I think you will help cause others to become optimistic, which will help the company do better. But on the other hand it might cause some others to choose to stay with the company thinking it will grow, when it would be better for them to move to a different company (that might do better).

Hope this makes sense. Thanks
