What color should I dye my hair?

What color should I dye my hair? I have lightish tan skin, dark brown hair with a reddish tint to it, and dark brown eyes. I want to go lighter but my hair stylist says that I can't do any blond in it because the hair color (from a box) that I’ve been using would make my hair fry if I went that light. Any ideas?

I have a round face and very long hair - reaching my rear. Do you know what kind of a hairstyle would look good considering my face shape?
