Hi, I'm a 20yr student in a 3 year college career Illustration program. However it's fairly intense and I've had to take it at my own pace and take time off here and there. I havent been taking any classes this past semester but i'm going back in the next semester. my problem is i feel like i've lost my motivation and inspiration in life. Like my interests have been limited and i just don't know where to go to open up my horizons about different things. be it anything, i'm interested in fashion, illustration, painting, history, philosophy, tv, movies, MUSIC, reading of all sorts. i'm a knowledge junky but i feel like i'm not learning anything new right now. i don't even have a favourite artist at the moment. if anyone has any suggestions, recomendations or adivce of any kind! please feel free to give me your opinions. i just don't feel like myself lately and i'm not sure how to get it back.

Thank you :

I really want to be able to draw anime and manga well. Does anyone know any sites or tips on drawing them?
P.S. It would be better if the sites were free - my pocket money is limited!

There's a program in my library called Teen Art Studio, it's been running for a couple years and classes cover things like drawing, painting, calligraphy, collage...all hands on art materials. I'd like them to try making some art and design using the computer. Not sure what to try...animation, drawing, altering photos? Where would you start? I'd like to make a handout of recommended websites to explore. I have six laptops, and can hook one up to a projector so everyone can see. There's usually around 20 kids in the class, so they'll have to take turns at the computer.

If you have any good software recommendations, it would be helpful as well. The library would probably be interested in purchasing well designed software for patron use.

If you could tell me why you like the site or the software, or any special features it would be helpful.

Thanks.

Hi, I really appreciate if somebody can answer this question:
I have a diamond image, which obviously has different shades in it, it actually has dark, like dak brown shades, which i want to change to lighter smth like light yellow, i tried replace color, hue/sat//light but the effect is not realistic like an actual diamond looks, it is loosing its luminosity. i even tried with magic wand tool, by selecting each darker part and changing color, but it does'nt look realistic either. I would be very grately if somebody could help me with this. I m using Photoshop 7.0
Thank You in advance.

This is a stupid rhetorical question so I apologize in advance. Probably no one will be able to give me a good answer because the question itself *can't* be answered. Still.. I own an 18-55 kit lens and a 55-200 vr for which I paid half what I would have had to pay for an 18-200. Even now, months later, I'm wondering if there's any advantage to the 18-200 over this lens pair other than not having to switch lenses. Theoretically, switching lenses frequently will get dirt into my camera and eventually damage the sensor - but that isn't *that* likely and I would in any case still switch to primes now and then. So..... is there any good reason to pay double what an 18-55, 55-200 costs just for the convenience of not having to switch lenses; or is there some other, weird, solid reason for only owning the 18-200 since, from what I've heard, image quality is so similar as to be indistinguishable?

I'm not a photographer. I use photography as a tool for my work (painting).

I want to set up a part of my art studio for this purpose and I want to buy a small amount of medium quality lighting equipment.
I mostly use directional lighting as I like shadows, but a smaller secondary light source would be good too, so there could be some detail and reflection in the shadows.
Generally I like a warm highlight and a very dim blueish or cool secondary light source.
I haven't done this in a long time and I used to use transparency film, but now I will be working in digital.
Can anyone recommend some suitable lighting equipment for me and possibly give me an online link to a sensible setup scenario ? I realise I'm going to need adjustable stands to raise and lower the lights, which I have to be able to swivel around to get shadows how I want them.
Thank you, Lizzie :o)

Hi, I have a Canon PowerShot A570 IS. Recently I've been playing around with some of the different settings, and have figured out some cool stuff to do with slowing the shutter speed, however I still don't understand the aperture setting. What is the effect on the picture from increasing or decreasing the aperture? When should I use a high aperture, and when should I use a low one? Also, anybody with a similar camera (or familiar with this one), what other interesting stuff can I do besides "time lapse" type photos and messing with the aperture? I need some inspiration and information on how to do it...thanks!

White balance was the least of my worries. I worked it out "okay" with levels and saturation and came up with this result for a promotional shot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/2095012002/
Here's what ran in the paper over the copy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/2095011822/

I tried to show as much of the diversity of this exhibit as possible in one frame. You can expect the image to be cropped to suit column width, but it would be nice if it was cropped level. Talk about white balance issues? This barely looks like the same picture. It doesn't help that the page were printed so far off index that it looks like you need those 3-D glasses to view it! I'm glad I don't do this for a living...
