I also believe that in order that an artist become a great artist he/she needs to truly understand drawing the human body. One of the most important things to to draw from life, and if you can accurately do that than you will have a bette understanding of art....do you agree.???

Well..... it took me a while to get used to looking at a nude as an object to paint, to get beyond the sexual aspect of an unclothed body. But when I did I realized that a body is one of natures most beautiful things.
It is one of the things anybody can see if you got it right. Indeed, next to portraits it is a very rewarding way to learn the craft of painting and drawing.
(By the way: Landscapes are still number one. Portraits are number two, Still life number 3 and then come the nudes.)

In todays society nudity is portrayed as rude and shameful. This is due to the fact that marketting involves the selling of sex. Sex has also been manipulated to make profit and is also therefore seen as inappropriate. What links to the typical persons view of nudity in contemporary society-rude, shameful and inappropraite.
The sneakiness of this view was not so common in the days of Da Vinci and Micheal Angello. People viewed the human body as a sign of beauty. This is the purpose of artwork-illustrating masterpieces of beauty. Beauty of people, places and things.
The beauty of humanity and the human body was highly valued in ancient times. This value was associated within artistic reflections. The human body was considered sacred because this is what unites the love between people which is why you may also see people making love without clothing in particular artworks. It was also believed that there is no shame about a persons body.
Such artwork is now uncommon because society immediately links nudity with porn.

I think that artist's depict the nude human form because of its timeless ability to express raw emotions through body language. There are good line and shape composition (all basic shapes exist here) in drawing the body. It is also a celebration of the beauty of human body form. In some cultures to have a sculpture of naked child bearing female would help promote fertility to its owner. So, there is some sacredness to the human form, after all, our body's are our temples.

Painting a realistic image of a nude human body can be a challenge because of the bodies contours and curves. This requires adjustments in shading. If it isn't done right, it looks terrible.

i am an artist who paints mostly people. i am amazed that a finite group of parts can be put together in infinite variety, and that one body can express so many different feelings simply by changing the colors, or posture. and that each is completely unique in the universe. wow

art is about beauty.
Without beauty, there is no point in art.
We find the naked body beautiful, because we are human.
Humanity IS the beauty of the naked human.
Without our nakedness, we become mass-murderous religious nutcases, and destroy each other. This is why all religions promote death, and fight against nakedness.
