Mine is either a picture of a newborn baby or the small forest in my yard. It gets so pretty at dawn and dusk. It's almost breathtaking. What's yours?

someone asked me why life was worth living...I said..

Life is so worth it to live.
I know how you feel though.
Sometimes I have those days where I feel like life just sucks and I don't know why I am here. But you should treasure every SINGLE day you live. Life is an adventure. I don't know if you are religious or not but life is a gift from God and you need to love that gift and use it the best you can. Think about all the people that want to live so bad but can't. Think about the people that have cancer and die. Or all the other diseases. You have no idea how lucky you are to be able to see, walk, hear, be free, say what you want, do what you want and practice the religions you want. You have no idea how your life is near perfection compared to others. Sometimes people may bring you down because they are assholes and they either are jealous or they have such a low self-confidence level that the only way they can feel better is by hurting them.

So many cultures have said that something significant will happen around the 21st century. Do you think that we are the last generation? Do you think that we're on a path to doom? I need lots of answers!

I know I am going to get flak for asking this but, I am honestly a little confused! Albert Einstein was also philosopher, Sir Isaac Newton was also a philosopher.
All question in philosophy are connected to other fields, So I was surprised when one of the question ask could only be answered reasonable by referring to science, but the asker insisted that only philosophical answers could be given.
I am no philosopher and was under the impression that philos (the love of) and Sophia (knowledge) meant just that!
Am I now to assume that only trees falling in woods question count as long as non scientist come along to spoil the fun.
I am an ignorant men please go easy on me!

If there is a bunch of data that follows a linear pattern, is it better to have a theory with more parameters to account for the data or a simpler theory to account for the data? Is it better to have a model with a bunch of parameters in which we can vary the value of the parameters to fit the data or is it better to have a simple model with fewer parameters? For example:

x^2 + 2x + 9 = y
2x +9 = y

I wrote this 6 months ago before I had any idea what transcendentalism was.

In every stage of your life you were tested. Whether it is the 2nd grade spelling test or your driving test, people are constantly testing us against set standards. But aren''t we all unique? Don't we all make our own unique standards of life. So by testing us you are forcing us to rise or fall to the standard. Doesn't this leave us without a sense of individuality. We all are taught and tested on the same things. And by testing us you get results. We can fall short or surpass these generic 'standards'. We leave with our head helds high or shot down to a lower self confidence. Its always about sucess or failure and it never ends. Why do we do this to people? I understand their importance to society. But it leaves people with no self worth. Is there help for them?
