the history channel did a show about the man and compared him to nostradamus. he was a doctor and helped people when he fell into a trance...he could say in his sleep how to heal people and got sick when people would ask him questions to make money. He was from the united states and i believe he died like in the 50's or 60's

Life is a journey, so they say. So, if you had to drop everything in order to continue but one thing, what would that be? What would be in your baggage? Or what would you think should be in the baggage? And why?

I've studied philosophy intensely from Plato to Heidegger, from Lao Tzo to Karl Marx but i consider these 3 to be among the 20th centuries greatest philosophers yet they aren't recognized as such. Why not?

We all know we're going to die but its only when the moment appraoches that we truly begin to appreciate life. Maybe if we held the fragility and beauty of living closer then there'd be less hurt and more kindness in the world.
In fact why dont we encourage kids to visit old folks homes so they can be given greater appreciation of their life and youth?
What are your views on this?

If your passing words could be immortalized for humanity's benefit, what would it be the content??? Remember, you're dying, so it can't be "too long," but still feel free to write as prolifically as you wish - just try not to ramble on as the dying often do; try instead to keep the "flow" cohesive & coherent. Oh, and PLEASE, no "Rosebud" entries... the famed "Citizen Kane" responce is way too predictable!

Sure, weve made many scientific discoveries but there is still so much we dont understand. Evolution has still yet to be proven and yet so many still follow it like a pre-historic people attributing a falling star to the finger of God. Many still reject God and place their hope and future in their careers, intellect or ability and yet consider nothing beyond their own reality. At least people back then acknowledged the fact that they are mortal and were not in control of their own destiny.

What's the qualifier when we say we are interested in something? Is it simply our skills or strengths or aspiration? Or is it that queer thrill we get? What decides the longevity of our interests?

I personally think it can be done by the following experiment.

Hypothesis:
If religious people believe in god A, then he has faith in god A. I infer if I remove the person memory which located at hippocampus, I can make him to be agnostic. My hypothesis is that our human mind controls the person thinking such as imagination, and if faith or belief is part of imagination, then if I remove the person memory, the person will become a non-religions person after the surgery due to lacking the ability to imagine. He will become a new person. In contrast, if there is really a god inside him, he will still be a believer of god A after the surgery.
To test it, we need a believer volunteer and a control volunteer.
Materials
A believer: I will pick one who is religious representative such as pope.
A agnostic: I will be volunteer.
A surgical microscope to find the target of memory region like hippocampus tissue.
A team of famous brain surgeons from John Hopkin or Mayo Clinic.

If I were unfortunate enough to be in an accident that made me unrecognisable to family and loved ones I would be able to convince them I am me by recalling memories and sharing facts that only I could know. If the accident didn't physically harm me but resulted in amnesia on my part then it would be my friends and family who would do their best to convince me I am me. So where am I and who am I if the accident results in disfigurement and amnesia?
