Well in the UK theres one call every minute to the Police for assistance for domestic violence.

This means the police receive 1,300 calls each day or over 570,000 each year.

However, according to the British Crime Survey, only 40.2% of actual domestic violence crime is reported to the Police!

I guess the answer to your question is no, not enough people have stopped beating up their partners.

No

James Mason, wasn't it, who made this gag famous? No is the best answer, because it can be logically consistant with the fact that you have never started to beat your partner, and so do not need to stop.

If you are in that position, you won't succeed in stopping by yourself. Recognizing that your actions are wrong is a great start, and one most guys never make, but it's almost impossible to make substantial behavioural changes thru self-reflection alone. Changing your behaviour requires interaction with others, that's just how the brain is wired, we can't create new behavioural patterns by ourselves - so if you're in that position, you really need professional counselling/therapy and you'll be glad you got it.

And the guy isn't called 'brute'. 'Et tu, Brute?' is Latin, supposedly the last words of Julius Caesar, meaning 'You too, Brutus?' - generally people say it to express that they feel betrayed.

No.............. but as he is a masochist so I don't feel bad about it one iota.

Perhaps though I should refuse to beat him so that he would actually suffer, but is this what he really wants but is too shy to tell me. Maybee I shoudl just beat him more ferociously in between periods of refusing to torture him

Americans / Germans just dont get irony
