Assuming both half brains are enough to create are (more or less) functional people, I think it's purely a matter of stipulation. We might find reason to say one or the other is the "same" person as the fellow who existed before the operation, or we might find reason to say that the person who existed prior to the operation is now just gone, replaced by two new, distinct individuals. But I don't think there is any truly objective answer to this - the sense of continuity of a self over time is a construct of our the way our minds work, and nothing more.

OK. First we have to assume brain transplant is actually possible. If it were, to answer this you must first consider that the definition of YOU has nothing to do with your body. You are your spirit. So, if God decided to make it possible for your body to be split in two, he would allow another soul to inhabit your other half.

Actually come to think of it, that's what happens with identical twins right? Any Gemini's out there have an opinion on this? Just kidding.

Can't understand why your assuming your identity (you) is located in the brain. If during the operation you were kept alive by life support system "you" would obviously still be on the operating table. You may awake to find your very essence was no longer there but you would be.

Screwed, both halfs of the brain work in tandem with each other. You would be able to say nouns but loose your verbs. your sight would be gone and you'd have little memory.

You will be where you are. As soon as there are two of you, each would be their own self. It would be like staring into the mirror. But as time past, each of you will follow your own destiny, and accumulate different experiences making each of you more and more distinct.
