A bit of everything you say lies at the core of our interests. But above all, I think it's the sense of peace you get in doing it. When you do something that interests you, you get an inner sense of fulfilment. It's a very private feeling, and others will often fail to understand how you can be so engrossed in, and enthusiastic about, something which they might view as useless or trivial. I am not interested in philately, but I can clearly see the peace on my stamp-collecting son's face when he pores over his collection quite oblivious of time. You might experience a similar peace when you're with little children, or have just concocted a new recipe, or finished playing the violin, or fixed the leaking faucet, or whatever else that you love doing.
Ultimately, what truly interests you is what gives you peace after having done it.
Do what you love to, and experience that peace. You do need it in this otherwise insane world.

For most it's the desire to be happy, fulfilled and at peace. Many things in life fulfill these desires temporarily and often times people think that in abundance they will bring a proportionate amount as well.
Unfortunately, they never satifsy completely and people revert back to the same longing desires. At the he core of every person exists the need for God, only He completely fulfills.

dear kads,
the things that retain our likings are our interests.
Interest is what we like to do. it comes from our heart no body has to tell that tp you to do. even if some one says no to you. you still do them because you like it.
some things goes on to become interest when you get used to certain things and do not get bored with it.
it is just a kind of attractiveness... it has nothing to do with strengths and ability.... it just comes from heart....you say...."oh! i love doing that"
one may have many interests, but to realise which one is the best is the great job.
and if you choose your career as per your interest...you shall be ever happy.

I think we are interested in something because it makes us feel good about ourselves. Things that interest us are mirrors into us. Once we learn all we can from that particular mirror or interest, that is when we loose interest...
