personalities and attitudes? I always wondered why it seems alot of white women are attracted to black men or men of different ethnicities, but it seems like for a white man they want something more similar to their ethnicity or race, and don't want to go for a noticeable change.

The range of Marxist theoreticians who have tackled the subject of art runs from William Morris's 19th century perspectives on the idea of beautiful, public art, accessible to all, to the sterile conformist hard line introduced by A.A. Zhdanov in Stalinist Russia, and, at the most extreme end of things, Jiang Qing's Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in China. With such differences of extremity, it is challenging to find an attractively moderate socialist stance on art that can fit into today's modern world. Still, I invite everyone to give their opinions and reasons for them.

My personal favourite is Ernst Fischer. I like always to link Marxism and Humanism, and I see no contradiction in Art keeping company with the two. From Fischer:

"Art is necessary in order that man
should be able to recognize
and change the world.
But art is also necessary
by virtue of the magic inherent in it."

-from "The Necessity Of Art"

Your thoughts, please?

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently a community college student and I'm very interested in Art. In my spare time I paint watercolor and oil paintings. I'd like to make a living selling my paintings. I was thinking of selling them on "Ebay" or selling them at my own store of paintings. I'm not sure what paintings people are interested in or will buy. What kind of watercolor paintings or oil paintings would you buy? Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful day.

Sincerely,
Erin Young

If this novel is well written could it find an audience? It's part reality/part fantasy. A boy is whisked away from his adopted family and goes to live with his real mother and grandparents whom he's never met (separated at birth). Since he finds his new life confusing (his real family is weird), events and people in his neighborhood are partly real but always have a magical element because he fills in the parts he doesn't understand with his imagination. Example: his hero is a high school student--the state champion high jumper. When the hero gets a beating by his father, the narrator hits the father with a rock, and the friend runs away. The neighborhood is worried, thinking he is missing, so they search for him. The narrator spots his hero standing on a rooftop. He smiles down at him & jumps. Instead of falling, he starts flying. The boy points to the sky. Everybody else sees him flying too. Why not? He's the high jump champ! P.S. The first chapter was published in a magazine.

Let's say the world was in a post-apocalyptic state (no government, horrible new diseases and anything else you can think of) with everyone on the run for themselves and you had a friend or acquaintance that was badly injured and there were not hospitals. Would you be that person that would want to drag them along? or leave them for the better of the group? Just doing some research for a novel.

I think growing up I received alot of negative WASP programming that the arts in general were a waste of time. I can't count the number of times that someone mentioned a person who say was going to school for arts or humanities or something, and the first response that an adult would make would be "Good luck trying to get a job in that when they are done...."

I heard it so much, that I think I started to believe it. But now, I'm completely the opposite. I admire people that create things, those people who have reached a "higher" level of awareness than the working person.

Were you pushed away from the arts or music in favour of more blue collar occupations?
