For 300 years, Islam has waited for a return to its glory days. On September 11, 1683, the Ottoman Turk jihad had Europe at its mercy. The Holy Roman Emperor had deserted Vienna; this central capital was helpless and doomed. Europe itself was exhausted after almost 200 years of war between Catholics and Protestants.

However, out of greed and a lack of religious fervor, the Turkish general had refused to finish off Vienna and so the jihad stalled. The custom of war at that time would have made him share the spoils of conquest with his troops if an infidel position was taken by storm. But if the Christians surrendered without a fight, the general would have all the loot to himself.

So the Turks loafed and partied, totally unprepared for the attack by King John Sobiesky of Poland on September 12, 1683, which choked off the jihad. Only the ignorant have believed that it would never return. Al Qaida wanted to go back in time and do it right, practicing what their imans preached

If they did not and the term "Victorian" was ascribed by later generations, then what might the British people of the early 21st Century be called by later generations? We've already had "Elizabethans".

The government doesn’t claim it, but constantly Americans claim it. I’m not denying their involvement in the war at all, but what im saying is this, without the Soviet Union we would not have won, without the British empire we would not have won, without the French we would not ha........well actually we could have won without the French. But the overall point is no one country won World War 2, it was a team effort.
One thought I have is that because the United States only entered the war when it was convenient for them, they were not as exhausted as the other combatants, and thus believe victory was solely due to them.
Please no rants about how America kicked **** and would have beaten Hitler back from anywhere. I agree, all the Allies fighting kicked ****, but to keep on saying America beat Hitler, or America saved the world is like attributing a sporting teams win to the last scorer when surely it is a team effort.
(I guarantee every second answer will be an abusive American!)

Hitler the most violent autocrat ever.Wheras gandhi a total contrast following ahimsa(non violence. Both were present around the same time as well. Now im asking in terms of character and capability.Dont tell me Hitler killed a lot of ppl how can he be a candidate.Beign hitler as well is now joke.

Personally i think it's gandhi....coz it's so easy to follow violence wheras gandhi the only man who believed in non violence at a time when not nly india but the world was in a mess. And for the record there was supposed to be an official poll on this topic but it was cancelled later.

I realize Germans didn't have much choice at the time, but surely at least some SA members/Strasserites must have resented Hitler for purging Rohm? Why didn't the average German realize how vicious Hitler was after the long knives purge?
