Exercising self control is part of exercising Free will.
Our consciousness is the root of our free will.
Our consciousness instills in us the desires to enhance our well being.
By using our senses and language etc., we gather intelligence for enhancing our well being.
Then we use our brain to focus ourselves to achieve the enhancement of our wellbeing.

Now as we focus and execute our plans we are constantly distracted by our surroundings.
Here is where self control comes into picture. If you have enough self control you will not get distracted towards something that you did not desire to achieve in the first place.

You can call it discipline, code of conduct, religion, tradition or simply as MBA's call it your action plan for your mission. If it is executed with determination and self control the result is more likely to be achieved than otherwise.

Self control is part of being aware of everything going on around you. Taking into account all the other things besides yourself and considering those things before acting or re-acting to any given situation.

No one can tell you when it is or isn't important. That's for YOU to decide. Hence : SELF control. You make the descision about how much or little control you want to show.

There isn't enough room in this box to answer all the variables in the question you asked. You want a detailed description of how it effects everyone and everything in every situation. Why not just hand your life over to someone and ask them to live it for you.

Self control is exactly that. It's YOU controling Yourself. If you cannot control yourself then you will never really know what benefits it can bring no matter what people tell you.

Self control is about not surrendering your actions to your impulses and desires and being able to control your impulses and desires is a sign of maturity.

It creates a bit of internal conflict and may feel uncomfortable but exercising it helps you to assess a situation and take the right (wisest) action, which always make good sense.

What is the right action? that is a moral and/or ethical question.

first..id like to point out the irony of your question..your question is "what is self control?"...but you've proved to be very good at controlling the way the question is answered by asking "please be very detailed"..(not very clear on self control..but gifted with the ability of controlling others)..LOL!!
anyway..self control is a decision made subjectively, by gaging the consequences of your actions..understanding and respecting the consequences of your actions will dictate your "self control". while the practice of self control is subjective..societies laws and norms are objective guidelines (contracts created objectively by the consensus to determine the consequences for your personal behavior).. as for the words used in your question.. like "comfortable..uncomfortable...wise..unwise...constructive..destructive..ect." ALL descriptive words that may carry any number of contexts..to be written and understood subjectively.....(what is a "wise"action to you..may be an "unwise"action to me..""destructive" behavior to you .may be perceived as "constructive" behavior to me..ect.) these words create a paradox of contexts..nobody can answer what is important or necessary..or mature or constructive to you..except for YOU!....

Self control is will power. I personally have will power----I just won`t be a slave to it.
Good luck on your quest for inner domination.
