Hitler the most violent autocrat ever.Wheras gandhi a total contrast following ahimsa(non violence. Both were present around the same time as well. Now im asking in terms of character and capability.Dont tell me Hitler killed a lot of ppl how can he be a candidate.Beign hitler as well is now joke.

Personally i think it's gandhi....coz it's so easy to follow violence wheras gandhi the only man who believed in non violence at a time when not nly india but the world was in a mess. And for the record there was supposed to be an official poll on this topic but it was cancelled later.

I don't think that any Germans have answered this question yet. Hitler was a brute and a tyrant and was guilty of atrocities. He also instituted the auto-bahn (sp?) and brought Germany out of a dreadful depression. He was a leader who inspired his people to fierce patriotism and unquestioning loyalty. He could have been the greatest if he wasn't a sociopath bent on genocide.

Gandhi was a great man - of that there can be no doubt. His peaceful movement changed India in so many wonderful ways.

My vote for the greatest man of the millennium must go to Leonardo da Vinci. His art and ideas are timeless and relevant today. He was also part of the group that shed light on the dark ages of the west. The current age of invention and industry is a direct result of the Renaissance.

Both had good sides one was crazy and tried to rule the world and destroy an entire race but if his hate wouldn't have gotten in the way he could have been great- he did do some great things for Germany health care, roads, jobs, ect.
Gandhi stood up for his people and made people listen to him through self sacrifice.
So there is no real answer.

I beleive Mr Gandhi because by War & Froces anyone can won a battle provided one has leadership qualities. Moreover, it is very easy to dodge onto to the way of Voilence.

On the otherhand, non-violence needs temprament, candidature and character to stick to that path. So, i feel gandhiji is the greatest man.

Are you nuts, you can't even compare the 2.

There are many great people of their time and Gandhi was among them! Hitler - he was scum bag, lived alone - died alone- deserved it - the bastard. Ask the 4 million Jews, gays, blacks, Gypsy's, Christians, and others he put into the gas chamber

It is indeed harder to follow true goodness, because the devil tempts all the time. If he were not present, then it would be easier. There is even a kind of goodness that would lead you away from the truth. Stray away from that.

If one considers Hitler a "great" man their perception of greatness is obviously flawed, and therefore the question is meaningless.
