I recently came upon a blog where this guy from Ireland was talking about the Irish dating system. He was saying that you meet a girl at a pub and ask for her phone number and then a week later you call her up to "meet" with you. Which basically means to makeout. I also read that you never usually go on a real date until you're in your 20's. I really like this guy I met who lives in Ireland but how do I know if he wants to makeout with me..or date me? He's 26 and I'm 25.

We want explore Ireland by car and lots of hiking. We are more into nature, yet some history would be interesting.
We want to know what are the beautiful areas that would be best for peeps that like to hike, bike, sail, etc. Is there specified area of Ireland i.e. N, S, E or W?

Seriously I have heard that the Irish are meant to be so nice and welcoming when you visit etc, I have known a few N Irish but not any R Irish except one who turned out to be a nut case but I wouldn't judge a country on one person, however since reading some of the answers on this section I have come to realise that you Irish really do hate us English. Why is that I mean history is history fair enough but for Christ sake I haven't killed anyone so why the abuse! I am sorry but it is very disheartening reading some of it and I would say that I would never go to Ireland now because of it as you don't sound as welcoming as people say I would be afraid of getting attacked if I spoke and people realised I was English I think it is a shame as I have always wanted to Visit Ireland and see where some of my ancestors came from!

Are there border checks on this border? I, (U.S. citizen) am traveling with a friend (Indian citizen) to Dublin and I'd like to go into Northern Ireland since I have old family from just over the border. My friend is getting a visa to Ireland but doesn't want to get a visa for U.K. and worries that she'll be caught there without one if we venture north. A friend who is Mexican went last year and says there is no checking of passports or visas and he traveled freely.
Also, my friend says it's still dangerous there while I have the impression that the situation has calmed down in recent years.
Thanx.

A friend and I are traveling to Dublin and around Ireland in late May. We're very excited and starting our planning early. The subject of what to wear weighs heavily on our minds and my friend is planning on showing off her legs in shorts but I'm thinking it might be a bit nippy still. Also, I'm not sure how casual one should be in some of the smaller or formal places we might visit . . .I don't want to stick out like a typical tourist at first glance! Any hints from frequent visitors and natives?

Also, I'm looking for good tips for nice homey pubs to visit and places with oysters not too expensive!

Many thanks,
Michal

Hi. I was wondering if there were any 'books on tape' lessons for learning Irish. I would like to learn it up to a conversational level and can find nothing here in my local book stores. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

They're the best self-promoters in the world, that's all. If you want genuine warmth and hospitality go to somewhere like Lebanon (when there's no war on).

I recently posted a question to find more info. and such on Ireland. I wanted to Thank those that responded.

I just wanted to point a few things out. First off, part of the project is a book of 138 pages, that have to be filled. Of course it has questions and directions on each page. She is in honors 5th grade ect.

This is her project, but yes I am helping her, so she does not get overwhelmed....isn't that what parents do? As for posting the questions myself, I did that for safety reason because my child is only ten. Thank you.

Okay, I'm in 9th grade and I have a project due March 6 for my Honors History class and I have to pick a country I want to learn more about and write a 5 page paper about! I have decided to do Ireland so do you have any information at all about it? Maybe past wars or even what is happening there now? If you live there or have been there could you help me out: sites you can see or what the laws are like down there? Please and Thank you :)

Before anyone harps on me for leaving the US, its not because I don't love my country because I do, I just feel a strong pull and call to go to Ireland. Now to my ???...I want to live somewhere I will see all four seasons. Not to big of a city but not a small town with dirt roads either...good scenery and last but not least, I need a Ford dealership near by!!! I currently work for Ford and its where all my education is invested in so I want to stay with the company. Any ideas? What's it like to live in such a beautiful place? Any feedback would be wonderful!

My 10 year old child is doing a school project on Nations/country and she picked Ireland. She has a week left to finish the project. We have a lot of good information so far. But still need more, like...foods/drinks,17th - 18th century women's clothing, everyday life, the laws, health/wealth, ect.... Also "real" photos that are not copyrighted. We have googled just about everything and have come up with some things, but many have a copyright.
Like I said this will be for my 10 year old child's school project, so any real and safe information you have will be greatly appreciated. You can email me if you have other ideas or photos or would like to help us that we can use for her Ireland project. But please keep everything clean. Pretty much anything Ireland (safe and nonperverted) might work or give us more ideas. Thanks
