We mostly own our own homes in Ireland

Most Irish people own their own houses though it's getting increasingly more difficult to buy now with prices for a 3 bedroom semi detached costing anything up to €400K in a normal area and a lot more in the more affluent areas. There is a large immigrant population, mostly Polish, and they mostly rent. Again, renting is fairly expensive here with the same 3 bed house costing anything from €750 - €1200 per calender month. This is about to change though, with the building industry reaching saturation point and an economic downturn in the pipeline. Houses to buy or rent should become a lot cheaper in the next few years.
