I'm going to westport in Mayo soon and was wondering what there is to do there?

There are plenty of things to see and do in Westport. If you are going to be there between 11th - 14th May you will have the time of your life as the 'Fleadh Cheoil' (Irish music festival) is taking place there.

Go and watch 'Road Bowling' on Sundays at Lankhill and Knockrooskey, this is played with a solid iron bowl on the public roads over a set distance, the winner is the player to reach the finishing line in the least number of throws or shots.

Plenty of ancient castles and abbeys to visit. Ballintubber Abbey founded in 1216 has an ancient pilgrim's path which runs from the Abbey to the renowned place of pilgrimage Croagh Patrick (colloquially called 'The Reek'), where St. Patrick prayed.

Take 15 minute ferry trip over to Clare Island to see Granuaile's Castle, a 12th century Cistercian Abbey with rare medieval paintings.

Visit Westport House, one of Ireland's stately homes open to the general public. On its grounds there is a pitch-and-putt course, camping facilities, many walks, a bar and shops and boat rides.

Go to the Country Market held in the Town Hall every Thursday from 9.00 a.m.-1.00 p.m.

Matt Molloy's Bar (Matt is one of the musicians of the group "The Chieftains") has live traditional music seven nights a week.

Hoban's Pub has traditional Irish music sessions Saturday & Tuesday nights.

hey iv being there a few times but only wos there on business.aparently has a really gd nitelife there!its a really clean town and the locals are really friendly!should climb croagh patrick.there is also westport zoo,prob only worth going if theres kids with ya!enjoy.if your bored jus ask in the shops or ur hotel is there anything fun to do,they will be more than willing to help
