If this summons up a past childhood trauma, I apologize...And feel free to condemn my question. Thank you.

I want to teach my 6 year old daughter how to swim. She is afraid to stick her head into the water. What are the best techniques to teach swimming in a fun way?

I swim at an olympic size pool. When there's light rain, I'm 0K, but when I see lightnings or hear thunder I get out. I've actually stayed to finished my laps sometimes when there's lightning. But I was terrified, I just wanted to get it over with. The pool is over 30 years old, and I've asked some of the retired people who are always there if lightning has ever fallen in the pool, they tell me NEVER. So why am I still affraid?

I went to the beach and got hit on the side by a wave. I was not too deep, not too close to the shore, so basically the prefect spot for the wave to crash. I get home and I lay on my side to find that my ribs feel a little tender/sore. There isn't a bruise or anything it just kind of hurts a little, so is it possible that it happened due to the wave? I don't remember hitting anything with my ribs so that 's the only thing I can think of.

A friend told me to eggbeat carrying weights, that it would greatly increase the strength of my lower body. Is this true? What else will it do for me, and are there any things I should know or can do/alter to improve this? And any advice, also, would be appreciated. Oh, and also, this is for a Track and Cross Country runner, not a swimmer. They don't have a running section! Damn them!

When I do butterfly, my arms don't come out of the water all the way, is there any exercises that I can do improve it (in and out of the pool)?

When I start I cross my legs...it's wierd, because in my first year swimming I would kick while in the air (lol) and so I now (to prevent it) cross my legs subconscieously and it slows me down.

Also I am soooooo fricken slow at breast...any ideas?

I've asked my coaches and our "star" butter and breasters, and we've made little progress (I do try, but becasue of florida's weather right now, we've only had 3 practices. which has someting to do with it...its my first time doing these strokes).

thanks a bunch

What do they do? Obviously, they swim. But I don't need to join a team to swim, do I? So what exactly are the benefits?

Also, if I would start to swim competitions, would I really have to wear the Speedos? Or jammers, for that matter?
