I swim at an olympic size pool. When there's light rain, I'm 0K, but when I see lightnings or hear thunder I get out. I've actually stayed to finished my laps sometimes when there's lightning. But I was terrified, I just wanted to get it over with. The pool is over 30 years old, and I've asked some of the retired people who are always there if lightning has ever fallen in the pool, they tell me NEVER. So why am I still affraid?

IF it's an outdoor pool, then I'd say that your instincts are working fine. IF the swimming pool is an INDOOR pool, then you're over-reacting since the walls, roof and glass windows insulate against lightning entering (the metal around windows are NORMALLY non-conductors)

I recall as a kid trying to get into a public swimming pool but the guards and the police closed it off... it had rained and thundered and everyone was trying to get out of the water, as urged by the lifeguards, and a lady was taking her sweet time getting out and she was struck and killed by lightning! Many years later, I worked at the same swimming pool as a swimming and lifesaving instructor! I have never forgotten that.

attempt hypnosis or face your concern. attempt to by no skill be the optimal factor of conductivity in a hurricane or use the Lee Trevino paradigm. Get your self a a million iron from a community golfing professional shop. in the time of the subsequent electric powered hurricane, pass out and carry it immediately up in the air. Even God won't have the ability to hit a a million iron.heavily, a healthful concern of lightning is a sturdy undertaking. you could probable restore a debilitating concern with the suitable counseling

Because since we were little kids we were always told to stay away from water during a lightning storm. Even told to not take a shower in your own home.

It's just safer to not be in water during this time. You don't know how the lightning will travel. I would get out of the water as quickly as you can without making an abrupt jump out.

You have something some people don't have"the instinct for DANGER". You should NEVER stay in a pool or any body of water during LIGHTNING (or thunder, since thunder is the noise of LIGHTNING). Your common sense is telling you, "this could be bad"!!

I agree, when you were a child your parents probably told you to get out of the bath when it was raining, or not to take a shower in lightning.
my did and i don't get in the water during lightning to this day.
don't worry about getting over it, just follow your instincts.
better safe then sorry : )

Because your instincts are correct. You are at extreme risk while in the pool during lightning activity.
