...to putting in their application?

has it got to the stage where we only want to be encouaging incomers who share our values and want to be no different to us, after a generation or two?

do you think this language clause should be required from all applicants, or only from those who come from communities that have already demonstrated problems in their level of commitment to integrate..ie muslims......on the grounds that we know all the others...whoever they are---african chinese inuit polish brazillian etc etc etc will be no different to us and speaking perfect english after a generation of uk schooling, but that muslims will still want to continue keeping themselves separate, not speaking english unless it suits them and wanting to bring in more of their own "segregation minded" people from poor backward areas of the world.

I am reposting the below as I resolved the question before I go away but still would like further comments - I shall read on return -

When I was a girl I used to wear my older brothers' old shorts to play in (and the fact that they had had good use out of them and they were still fit for me to wear shows that you don't need teflon coating on children's clothes) but my Father out a stop to that when I was about thirteen and looking back I am glad for it.
I certainly would not have been allowed jeans (nor were my brothers) even for play.
I never liked trousers on a women even an expensive trouser suit and have I never worn such as an adult.
These days many young women think it smart to go out in jeans and some even wear men's underwear - boxer shorts.
Are they afraid of their femininity?
Policewomen and others may wear trousers (so did the "Land Army" women during the war) but off duty you can be sure that they dress as *women*.
What is the problem with celebrating what we are?

I guess Penelope Keith supports the bromide that `good guys finish last` and thus has decided to pre-empt McDonalds or Starbucks or Costa in an attempt to impose a multiplex cafe on the inhabitants of a small Inverness town.

It is probably true that the objection does reside in that it is Keith; but not because it is Keith but because Keith is not a multicorporation with the power to corrupt local business.

So, ipso facto, if the locals begin competing with the multis and at their own game, what fate awaits poor old Scotland? I`ll tell you what. It`ll be a Denver in the making.

Pity!

I have a really deep interest for afghans and Afghanistan, they are so mysterios to me and seem like they all have stories to tell. Just look through their eyes, these are boys and men in a refugee camp after a war that killed half of there people. This is an orphan boy

These were taken by a U.S soldier in Afghanistan, the people are of the pashtun (Afghan) ethnic group and are not Arabs. I want to go to Afghanistan and learn more about them.

I think that natural beauty is best and that make-up is only worn because of the media and insecurities. The media shows girls how they "should" look so they copy it. Am I crazy in thinking that the world would be better if no one wore make-up and had to strive for unrealistic beaty? Or am I just some wacko who is going against the norm and should be corrected?

Do you remember when you used to watch TV just for the sake of it (if you ever did) and then started zapping through the programs, because there really wasn't anything worth watching?
My guess is that people are in communities like Y!A for the same reason: They have no idea what to do with their time.
I mean, of course, there are positive aspects to it, e.g. you are active in contrast to watching TV. But it is still far away from LIFE.

So my actual question is:
Do we still know at all what to do with our time?

If the internet broke down for a week, what would all those chatting, answering, downloading people do? Is it easy for you to make plans for the weekend, even if it's going to rain?
What does tradition mean in that regard? Was there more to do, let's say 50 or 100 years ago? Do we still have a life in that sense, or are we just lost within science fiction that became real, meaning that we do things because they can be done, but not because they make any good sense?

I am thinking about cremation with ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean, or a "green" funeral using a biodegradable box and no embalming in our family plot. I want very little money spent on me so that there is more left for my family.

A friend of mine wants to be shot into space. Another wants to giver her body to science.

What do you guys think? Have you ever thought about it?

I saw a special on Dateline about how child molesters were drawn to a house where supposedly a young girl (about 12 or 13 years old) was waiting to provide men with sexual pleasure.

This does not surprise me at all. This old world gets more wicked everyday.

However, what did strike me as odd was the PROMINENT members of society that showed up at the house.

I saw doctors, teachers, rabbis, lawyers, engineers, etc.

In other words, I expected to see ordinary people or the ghetto crowd or thugs, etc.

To my BIG surprise, the professional people who DAILY gossip and downgrade the ghetto areas and thugs, were the ones seeking to molest a young girl(s).

Honestly, what do you say about our educated, professionals after watching that Dateline special?

Honestly.

Sometimes when im feeling depressed, and if i remember the lyrics to "Always look on the bright side of life" by Eric Idle, i sing it to myself and it cheers me up. Its a nice song. Sometimes when i refuse to sing it, its because i dont want to be cheered up.

Anyway, in your opinion, is it possible to be happy while acknowledging the problems inherent in the world? I think it is, thats why i sing this song to myself, but what do you think? Should we be happy when things are all horrible?

I have a black friend who insists that my brother-in-law is not African American, even though he was born and raised in Africa and has dual citizenship. (And his family has been in African for generations and generations - he says they are native to Africa.) I asked her what determines who is African-American and she said that only black skinned people (with American citizenship) are considered African-American. Is this because only black people are native to the continent of Africa? ARE black skinned people the only ones native to Africa? I really don't know.
(This is a serious question and not meant to be offensive or racist.) I in no way think that black people (African-American if you prefer) are inferior to any other race.
